How to use

  1. Pick your direction. Type your annual salary to see the hourly equivalent, or type your hourly wage to see the annual equivalent. Whichever field you type in drives the conversion.
  2. Set your hours per week. Forty is the full-time default โ€” change it if you work part-time, overtime-heavy weeks, or a nonstandard schedule. The math uses 52 weeks per year.
  3. Read the breakdown. Below the fields you'll see the weekly, biweekly paycheck, and monthly equivalents โ€” handy for budgeting against rent and bills.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert an annual salary to an hourly wage?

Divide the annual salary by 52 weeks, then by hours per week: hourly = salary รท 52 รท hours. A $60,000 salary at 40 hours/week is $60,000 รท 52 รท 40 = $28.85 per hour. Going the other way: salary = hourly ร— hours ร— 52, so $28.85/hour at 40 hours/week is about $60,000 per year.

How many hours per week counts as full-time for the conversion?

Forty hours is the standard full-time figure and the default here โ€” that's 2,080 working hours per year (40 ร— 52). If you work 37.5-hour weeks, use 37.5 for an accurate number: $60,000 at 37.5 hours/week is $30.77/hour, noticeably more per hour than at 40.

Does this include taxes and deductions?

No โ€” this converts gross pay only, before income tax, Social Security, Medicare, health insurance, and retirement contributions. Your take-home hourly rate will be lower. A quick rule of thumb: multiply the gross by roughly 0.7โ€“0.8 to ballpark take-home, though your actual rate depends on your tax bracket and deductions.

What about overtime, bonuses, or unpaid time off?

The converter assumes a flat 52 paid weeks at your stated hours. Overtime pay (usually 1.5ร—), annual bonuses, and unpaid leave all shift the real numbers โ€” add expected overtime and bonuses to the annual figure first, or subtract unpaid weeks from 52, for a truer conversion.
