About these tools
Speak every color language
The color converter translates between HEX, RGB, and HSL with a live preview of the color you're working with. Different contexts demand different formats: HEX for CSS and design tools, RGB when you need the channel values, HSL when you're adjusting hue, saturation, and lightness by feel. Type or paste in any format and get the other two instantly โ no mental math, no lookup tables.
HSL deserves a special mention for anyone tweaking designs: need a darker shade of your brand blue for a hover state? Keep the hue, drop the lightness. Need a muted version for a background? Keep the hue, drop the saturation. Thinking in HSL turns color adjustments from guessing into arithmetic.
Palettes without the guesswork
The color palette generator shuffles harmonious five-color palettes โ combinations built on color relationships (analogous, complementary, triadic) that are hard to get wrong. Working on a slide deck, a website, a room, or a logo? Shuffle until a palette feels right, then copy any hex with one tap.
A practical tip: most good designs use one dominant color, one or two supporting colors, and the rest as accents. If a palette feels busy, try using only two or three of its five colors and letting whitespace do the rest. And always check contrast โ beautiful palettes still need readable text, so test your combinations for accessibility before they ship.
Questions, answered
What's the difference between HEX, RGB, and HSL?
They're three notations for the same color. HEX (#ff7d3b) is compact and standard in CSS; RGB (255, 125, 59) gives the red/green/blue channel values; HSL (19ยฐ, 100%, 62%) describes hue, saturation, and lightness, which is the most intuitive for adjusting a color by hand.
How do I copy a color from a palette?
Click any color in a generated palette to copy its hex code straight to your clipboard โ then paste it into your design tool, stylesheet, or document.
Are the generated palettes actually harmonious?
Yes โ they're built from established color relationships on the color wheel (analogous, complementary, and triadic schemes), so the colors in each palette are designed to work together.
